Bringing a new baby into your family is one of the single most wonderful and life changing things that happens. Those precious newborn days are all too ephemeral, so capturing every perfect detail of baby is of the utmost significance. Here in out natural light studio we don’t used themed props or bright colors, just pure, tiny details.

Life with a newborn is amazing. With every little face, stretch and coo, you fall more in love with your new miracle. But life with a newborn is also exhausting! When new parents come to the studio for a newborn session, they are usually sleep deprived from adjusting to their new life. Learning to cope with short increments of sleep rather than a full night’s sleep is never an easy task, especially if your newborn is somewhat of a night owl.

I do have some tricks up my sleeve for every baby I meet, and it is my goal to create a soothing environment, that helps your newborn fall into a deep sleep for our time together. When I have a newborn scheduled, I turn the heat up – way up – before the session. Keeping the studio toasty warm is key because newborns usually don’t have much on during their sessions. (Parent’s are usually quite warm, too!) During newborn sessions, I also use a soothing sound machine. The constant, repetitive sound is calming to newborns because they just spent 9 months listening to the sound of their momma’s heart beating. Another trick I use often during a newborn session is a snug, cozy swaddle. Newborns usually love the feeling of being swaddled, and it is especially helpful with a restless baby. And then there’s always the newborn who wants to stick their legs straight out  and quickly maneuver out of any wrap! Ultimately, though, it is these tiny babes that rule the session, and decide how our session flows. I am always on “newborn time” in my studio. I love our time together and don’t mind if baby takes a little extra time to settle in for photos, or needs a break to feed.

With our signature style, we capture each tiny detail of baby. The curve of a minuscule ear, the ridge of each paper thin fingernail. Every whispy eyelash, and pouted full lips. Miniature perfect toes, and delicate fingers. These detail shots will enable you to remember forever those first brilliant days with baby so new to this world.
